Sadly, Greg is flying back to New Mexico to be with his 16 year old son when they put down his 29 year old horse this week. Pinot is a handsome reddish-brown, almost maroon Mustang (hence the name Pinot) that Greg purchased as a young colt from a BLM auction in the mid-70's. He gave Pinot to Steven just 8 or 9 years ago. I think Pinot was the first horse that Steve rode and has been his buddy since early childhood.
But, Pinot is old by horse standards. A few years back he developed narcolepsy. It was the weirdest thing. He's be standing in his stall or the coral then boom, down on the ground. The vet said it wasn't uncommon. But now, the poor thing is winding down fast. The family decided that is was time to let this beautiful beast run over the rainbow bridge to his final pasture.
I'm getting weepy just typing this. Four years ago this week I had to put Bozeman down. He was a true and trusted friend of mine for almost 11 years.
Thoughts and best wishes...
