Gold's Gym

My main credit card is expiring today and have had to update different accounts that debit my card for scheduled payments. Most went pretty quickly. I was able to update 7 accounts either online or over the telephone in about 10 minutes.

However, I was on hold with Golds Gym for nearly two hours trying to do the same. I held on out of curiosity while doing other things. And, well, it's their dime. For every minute that I am on hold, Gold's Gym is paying the toll charges on their 866# line.

Here's a rundown of my last two hours while holding for customer support at Golds Gym:

11:05am EST – initial call to 866# number, placed in cue at position 11.

12:36pm EST – held on long enough to place in cue at position 2 and was disconnected.

12:36pm EST – immediate redial and placed in cue at position 9.

1:06pm EST – down to cue position 1, live person comes on and says hello. Before I can pick up receiver, hung up on.

1:06pm EST - immediate redial and placed in cue position 3.

1:12pm EST - live person comes on line. We connect. Gold's Gym employee takes care of my transaction in about 60 seconds.

I didn't say a word to her about how long I've been waiting. It's not her fault – besides, she was thoroughly professional, pleasant and most efficient.
